HOW CAN WE LEVERAGE ON NEW ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY, REINVENTING THE WAY PREFABRICATED FACADE SYSTEMS AND CONCRETE FORMWORK ARE BEING CONCEPTUALISED TO DESIGN THE STRUCTURE OF A TROPICAL BUILDING?

THE PROPOSAL IS TO APPROACH CONSTRUCTING FORMWORK FOR MODULAR FACADE AND STRUCTURAL BUILDING ELEMENTS IN THE FORM OF 3D PRINTING AND FABRICATION TECHNOLOGIES. DESIGNED IN TANGENT WITH PASSIVE PRINCIPLES OF THE TROPICS, THIS TECHNOLOGY PUSHES THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW SHAPES AND MOULDS THAT UNLOCK MANY OTHER POTENTIALS IN BUFFERING AGAINST OR MAKE USE OF THE TROPICAL CLIMATE.

STOMA WAS A PRODUCT OF OUR YEAR 2 JOURNEY IN PRINTING ARCHITECTURE UNDER THE MODULE NAMED ARCHITECTURAL TECTONICS. THE PROJECT OFFERED AN APPRECIATION AND UNDERSTANDING FOR THE INNOVATION AND RATIONALE OF STRUCTURAL FORM GENERATION AND THE USE OF ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING THROUGH THE AID OF COMPUTER-AIDED 3D PRINTING TECHNOLOGY.
